Fun facts about me
Ohio is where my story started. Born and raised in Northwest Ohio, I feel that a piece of my heart will always remain in the Buckeye State. From my hometown of Perrysburg to Capital University in Columbus, this is where my writing journey began.
History is my jam. Whether through photos, recipes, stories, or legends, historical tales have always ignited my imagination. I proudly carry the torch of my ancestors as a Daughter of the American Revolution.
Transcontinental Adventures: Love led me to the enchanting forests, majestic mountains, and quaint neighborhoods of Portland, Oregon, where our family basked in nature's beauty for 12 wonderfully damp years. We later traded the Pacific Northwest for the sun of the Arizona desert, where I completed my master’s degree at Arizona State University. Hiking the diverse landscapes of the Southwest has become a favorite pastime.
Versatile Wordsmith: My professional path has taken me through various government and higher education roles, always intertwined with the art of writing. You may have come across my earlier publications in the Beaverton Valley Times, Brainstorm Northwest, or Doctor of Dentistry Magazine. I’m not much for political banter, but I will share that I like ellipses far more than exclamation points, and I love the Oxford Comma.
Bookish: When I’m not writing, you might find me reading David Sedaris, Erma Bombeck, or Mary Oliver’s poetry. When I was young, I loved looking at song lyrics on paper album sleeves and adding more verses in what I imagined the artists’ handwriting may have looked like.
From poems to tender eulogies for people and pets, my words have left a mark. You can find my most recent stories in these three books: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Advice that Changed My Life; Chicken Soup for the Soul: Get Out of Your Comfort Zone; and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tales of Christmas.
These books hold pieces of my heart, stories that I hope will touch yours, too.
